Our mission is to support and counsel our student-athletes so they will maximize their potential at University of Louisville and be successful in preparing for their future lives. We will provide leadership for our student-athletes to inspire their achievement of the goals established in this mission statement. University of Louisville's competitive athletics provide an outstanding leadership laboratory, and its high quality classroom instruction provides outstanding educational opportunities. It is our responsibility to assure that our student-athletes benefit from these educational and athletic experiences at University of Louisville. To help accomplish our mission, we provide superior services to our fans and donors, the primary financial resources that support our program. These services result in the best opportunities for our student-athletes to participate in well-supported, competitive programs that bring renewed spirit to our campus, our alumni, and the Louisville community.
PURPOSE OF THE ACADEMIC CENTER
NCAA Mandate · The NCAA adopted the students who perform excellent in their intercollegiate sports, University of Louisville is Division I member institution must make general academic counseling and tutoring services available to all recruited student-athletes. These services could be provided by the institution's athletic department or through its non-athletic Student Services Department. · Services that can be provided under NCAA guidelines include, but are not limited to:
- Tutoring
- Drug-Rehabilitation Programs
- Personal counseling related to the treatment of eating disorders
- On-campus student development programs
- On-campus career counseling programs
- Career counseling for future professional athletes provided it comes from a panel of university employees with not more than one of the panel members being employed by the institution's athletic department
- Use of computers and typewriters
- Reimbursement for class field trips provided such trips are a course requirement and are specified in the course catalog.
Services that are expressly forbidden by the NCAA guidelines include but are not limited to:
- Typing costs
- Course supplies other than textbooks and workbooks
- Free use of copying machine for student-athletes only.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
- Provide information on program requirements, courses, registration and other academic procedures to all student-athletes.
- Provide guidance and academic support strategies for all student-athletes.
- Monitor the academic progress and performance of all student-athletes.
- Communicate with coaches concerning academic policies and student performance.
- Participate in Student Affairs and University planning and assessment activities.
- Provide assistance and information about academic issues to assist in the operation of the University's intercollegiate Athletic program.
- Organize all programs and services around the concepts of Student Development theory in line with Student Affairs goals and objectives.
- Conduct all business and personnel activities in accordance with University policies and procedures.
- Manage the budget and all fiscal responsibilities within pre-determined limits and in accordance with University policies and procedures.
- Conduct researches and prepare reports as necessary to assist in the management of academic issues related to the University's Intercollegiate Athletic program.
- Conduct all activities and services in compliance with NCAA, Conference USA and University regulations.
